The version of Media server that I am running is: Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 0.141.20160820git1471509276 Sat Aug 20 08:28:OK, I've answered my own question: installing the plugin via the git clone method to /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins will only work if you had previously installed SvrPowerControl, for an install to a clean system on VB2.4 the git clone must be to /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Plugins, all then works. When I do the restart, the entire SvrPowerControl directory under /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins has been deleted and there is no listing of SvrPowerControl on the Settings -> Plugins page. When I go to Settings -> Plugins I get the prompt to restart the server. When I restart squeezeboxserver, I get a message on the mediaserver main screen saying SvrPowerControl requires a restart. I have installed Audacity from repo site but it will not. I now need to edit some of my sound files and would like to do this on the RPi suing Audacity. This setup works very well and plays music served from NAS by minimserver. I am using Mplayer with upmpdcli front end and controlling with BubbleDS control app from phone. That leaves the Ubuntu desktop free for me to play 0AD / Transport Tycoon or edit music files or upgrade to 20.04 LTS, break the server and reboot it and mess around with it, all while having zero impact on the family room music-delivery infrastructure. To me it's good for the music server to be single-use. User files such as your music library and your convolution files should ideally be placed somewhere (anywhere) else.
I don't want Ubuntu to be the music server. Under MinimServer\opt\bin Should I also move the ffmpeg folder too as they are both sub-directories The files under AppData\Roaming\MinimServer are either created by MinimServer or used by MinimServer in specific ways. MinimServer I used this for years prior to switching to Twonky, lacks artist/genre art and sadly is no longer free.

Now I sit there sometimes, playing games or surfing the web or whatever. Just added to the family room this past year is an Intel NUC with Ubuntu Budgie 19.10 and a nice monitor. With a control point on my tablet or phone – BubbleUPnP works well – I can cast my music collection to the family room stereo and enjoy great sound. In the family room I have a Google Chromecast Audio hooked up to my old audio receiver (optical line-in) which has the good speakers & sub. At home I've got a Raspberry Pi running Minimserver, with a 4 TB hard drive connected, as a music server.
